Sleeping Mermaid

A little sample piece I created on a scrap of ColourFix Pastel board. I used it to demonstrate a sgraffito technique. Briefly reverting to my Illustrator/Cartoonist roots.

Sgraffito

I used a ballpoint pen from which I removed the ink cartridge. Such a useful piece of equipment in the studio! I have quite a supply now to use for scoring paper for folding (for pop-ups) or this technique -which is basically gouging the design into the paper on a soft surface, then carefully applying pastel so the engraved lines don't fill up with colour.
